Melbourne one more time and surfing!

Seems I got a little ahead of myself with that Red Centre blog update. I completely forgot to talk about a second day me, Mari and Markus spent in Melbourne before that trip and our surf trip to Torquay as well! It's time to quickly and neatly correct that now.

Now if there was one place I hadn't visited at all in Melbourne that I wanted to have a look at, it was Queen Victoria Market. It's a huge covered market just in the northeast corner of the Central Business District. We went there to get lost in the passageways and saw a bit of it all, everything from special roo-meats, vegetables and strange seafood to the even more suspicious looking merchants with looks ranging from shady smugglers to Eastern European hairy women selling chocolate vodka! It's a cool place to just walk around on even if you're not looking for anything specific.

These donuts we bought from this van where they're baked from scratch were excellent!

Next up, we visited the National Gallery of Victoria which has a large collection of all kinds of types of art. Yeah, this is the building we tried getting into with Johanna and her friends about a month earlier. The building itself is quite interesting as well, but I think I prefer the exterior more than the interior. Those heavy walls with waterfall arch windows are neat!

The next day was reserved for surfing in Torquay. Unfortunately, while we already were in the bus they called us from the surf shop and informed us that the morning had absolutely no waves! And this is supposed to be one of the most reliable surf beaches in Australia! As we were already on our way, we went al the way and had a look at the situation with our own eyes, and sure indeed, even ants would have had trouble finding decent enough waves this day.

So, our plan changed as follows: M&M headed for the Great Ocean Road for a few days, while I went back to Geelong to start putting all my stuff in order for packing. We returned to Torquay two days later and then we finally got out waves! It was great fun, and we all managed to stay up enough to call it surfing. Mission completed!
