M&M in M

A few days ago M&M, Mari and Markus, my friends from back home, came down here! Mari had just ended a two week excursion in Japan, where Markus had then caught up with her before they both flew down to Melbourne. I went to spend the day with them walking around the city(I'm getting pretty good at that by now) and it felt really exciting and fun to hang around with old friends again! Most of the day we just drifted on, without any special aims, but naturally I had to show them those narrow streets, alleys and arcades that wiggle on between Flinders and Bourke St., as they are really enjoyable to walk along.

They'd be staying in a hostel just south over the Yarra river from Southern Cross station, so I walked down there and got a new view of the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. After catching up with M&M at the hostel we strolled in toward the CBD for a late breakfast.

A few delicious toasts and sandwiches later we walked through the Royal and Block arcades, which  are stuffed with christmas decorations by now. It feels wrong, somehow, to be preparing for christmas as everything else outside is heating up towards full summer. And summer it certainly feels like these days, the weather and temperatures right now are nearly perfect. Nice timing, friends!

Bourke street is also decorated with heaps of stars, wonder if they melt in the sun?

But as I said, mainly we just floated around among the rest of the street life, and stopped in amazement to stare at some of the more unusual feats of the city(which there are a lot of might I add, and that's one of the great features of this city in my opinion).

Summer has also brought tons of artists, musicians and street performers out on the streets, which further enlivens the atmosphere. I'd certainly recommend November as a great time to visit Melbourne! Oh yeah, if your wondering who the international guest artist is in the pic to the right, she's already been mentioned a few times in this post.

A very enjoyable day in perfect weather, that's how I'd sum this one up!

Markus and Mari are here to stay for a few more days, before the three of us head up to the Red Centre. I'm really looking forward to that trip, as I couldn't imagine myself coming to Australia without seeing what it's really like there in the desert. I'll return to that and current affairs tomorrow in a new post, right now I'm so tired I'm heading for bed this instant. Seeya later folks!
